Insulation Systems to Keep your Metal Building Compliant
Energy Codes can be complex and selecting the right insulation system for your metal building is crucial to ensuring an efficient building envelope. Nucor Buildings Group, along with our strategic partners, Silvercote and Metl-Span, understand the growing importance and complexity of increasingly stringent building codes. We offer a variety of insulation solutions designed for optimal energy performance, helping you meet the specific code requirements for your metal building project.
Recently, we have integrated roof and wall insulation products by Silvercote into eQuote to be scoped and priced.* Additionally, our elevated insulation system, R-Boost, and select Metl-Span insulated metal panels are also available for selection within eQuote. All Silvercote insulation solutions are custom-sized, include a vapor retarder, and provide a bright, clean, and finished appearance with excellent acoustic properties.
Let’s take a look at some of these options.
Insulation by Silvercote
As an Authorized Builder, you will benefit from Silvercote’s comprehensive insulation program. With their expertise in energy codes and vast experience in the insulation industry, Silvercote can help simplify complex code requirements while improving thermal performance. By working together, we can help you select optimal roof and wall insulation systems.
Single Layer Faced Blanket (Roof/Wall)
The Single Layer Faced Blanket is an ideal solution for both roof or wall applications. It is used over the purlins/girts or bar joists, offering a quick and easy installation process. Both the insulation and panels are installed from the exterior of the building envelope. For standing seam roofs with Tall or Super Tall clip systems, higher R-values and greater thicknesses can be accommodated. Multiple tab configurations and facing options are available to meet your specific needs.
Sag-N-Bag is a double-layered solution with the bottom layer featuring a laminated facing and the top layer being unfaced. It is installed over the purlin and provides an economical alternative for increasing R-values. Both the insulation and panels are installed from the exterior of the building envelope.
Long Tab & Banding is a filled cavity and high R-value system utilizing banding and faced insulation coupled with upper layer(s) of unfaced insulation. The bottom layer consists of laminated insulation with long tabs overlapping above the purlin or bar joist. A second layer can be added to completely fill the cavity followed by a perpendicular layer above the purlin or bar joist. To minimize the risk of condensation forming, it is recommended to fully fill the purlin cavity.
* Long Tab and Banding systems can be fully scoped in eQuote and currently require estimating assistance for pricing.
The Energy Saver liner system is utilized between the purlins or girts. The system provides both air tightness and a continuous vapor retarder. The fabric welding process used for the Energy Saver system produces seams that exceed the ASTM D-751 Standard for the fabric itself and can provide OSHA-compliant fall protection. Both the fabric liner and insulation are custom sized for each building and can be installed using brush-on-adhesive or fabric tape. For roof applications, the Energy Saver system is always double layer, while wall applications can be either single or double layer. For single layer wall applications, thermal break foam tape (included with the insulation), is applied along the outside of the girts. To minimize the risk of condensation forming, it is recommended that the purlin or girt cavity is completely filled.
The Purlin Glide system is utilized over the purlins, offering flexibility under adverse weather conditions. This solution minimizes visible seams compared to faced blanket insulation. This insulation is a great solution for high eave buildings and is also recommended when using R-Boost, our elevated insulation system. When combined with R-Boost, Purlin Glide provides the added benefit of fall protection, while utilizing two layers of unfaced insulation. The fabric welding process of Purlin Glide produces seams that exceed the ASTM D-751 Standard of the fabric itself, ensuring OSHA-compliant fall protection.
IMPs by Metl-Span
Our insulated metal panels (IMP’s) offer outstanding long-term air, thermal, water, and vapor control in a simple, yet brilliantly engineered single panel suitable for any climate. These panels are comprised of an advanced insulation core injected between two pre-finished steel facings, forming a single, all-in-one unit. The result is one of the most thermally efficient panels available. The insulated wall panels are also designed with a specially formed side joint that allows for the hidden application of sealant within recessed grooves, creating an impenetrable water and vapor barrier to protect your building against extreme weather conditions. Nucor Buildings Group offers a variety of wall IMPs and one roof IMP through eQuote. Wall options: CF Mesa, CF Light Mesa, CF Striated, CF Santa Fe, CF Flute, ThermalSafe, CF Tuff Wall, and CF Tuff-Cast. Roof option: CFR-IMP.
R-Boost by NBG
R-Boost is a unique patented design that incorporates a bridge between an initial and secondary layer of blanket insulation, effectively doubling the insulation capacity and meeting energy codes across most of North America. This system is designed to work with American’s SS360 roof system. Engineered for both functionality and durability, our roof panels are designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions, while offering a clean, attractive aesthetic suitable for nearly any application. When combined with R-Boost, this system maximizes the potential for total building system cost savings.
